Position Overview and Responsibilities

This position serves as Monitoring and Automation Administrator for the Technical Architecture Unit, in the Office of Florida Health Care Connections (FX) at the Agency for Health Care Administration.  The Monitoring and Automation Administrator is responsible for the continuous monitoring of the organization's FX solution infrastructure, ensuring the health, performance, and availability of critical systems and applications. This role involves setting up and managing monitoring tools, responding to alerts, and working closely with FX solution partners and IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues. The Monitoring and Automation Administrator plays a key role in maintaining optimal system performance and minimizing downtime through proactive monitoring and timely intervention.  This position reports directly to the FX Operations Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and Alerting:
    • Implement and configure monitoring tools to track the performance, availability, and security of servers, networks, interfaces, applications, and databases.
    • Set up thresholds, alerts, and notifications to detect potential issues before they impact operations.
    • Continuously monitor system performance metrics and logs to identify abnormalities or deviations from baseline performance.
    • Utilize monitoring tools to focus troubleshooting on specific modules in a diverse, module based solution architecture.
    • responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and support of the Managed File Transfer (MFT) and The Enterprise Job Scheduling (EJS) platforms.

 

  • Incident Response:
    • Respond promptly to monitoring alerts, diagnosing and resolving system issues to minimize downtime.
    • Escalate critical incidents to appropriate teams and work collaboratively to resolve them.
    • Document incidents, manage root cause analyses, and resolutions for future reference and continuous improvement.

 

  • Performance Optimization:
    • Analyze performance data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
    • Recommend and implement tuning and optimization measures to enhance system performance and reliability.
    • Collaborate with solution partners, and system administrators to optimize application and database performance based on monitoring insights.

 

  • Tool Management:
    • Manage and maintain monitoring tools and platforms, ensuring they are up-to-date and configured correctly.
    • Evaluate and implement new monitoring tools and technologies to enhance the monitoring capabilities of the organization.
    • Develop and maintain custom scripts and plugins to extend the functionality of monitoring tools as needed.

 

  • Capacity Planning:
    • Monitor resource utilization trends to support capacity planning and infrastructure scaling decisions.
    • Provide recommendations for hardware and software upgrades based on monitoring data and anticipated growth.
    • Work with the Operations Manager to plan and execute capacity upgrades in a timely manner.

 

  • Automation and Integration:
    • Automate routine monitoring tasks and alerting processes using scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools.
    • Integrate monitoring tools with other solution systems, such as ticketing systems, for streamlined incident management.
    • Ensure monitoring data is effectively utilized by solution teams and leadership for proactive management and decision-making.

 

  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Generate regular reports on system health, performance, and uptime for leadership, technical solution management, and stakeholders.
    • Document monitoring configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure consistency and reliability in monitoring practices.
    • Keep logs of incidents, alerts, and resolutions to support continuous improvement efforts and audit requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with MFT tools such as Oracle's OCI MFT platform, GlobalScape, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of secure file transfer protocols (e.g., SFTP, FTPS, AS2) and encryption methods.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components, including servers, networks, databases, and applications.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple systems and priorities.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and custom monitoring solutions.
  • Experience with cloud monitoring tools and environments (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor).
  • Experience in healthcare, government, or other regulated industry.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with IT and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to navigate and participate in multiple daily meetings both virtually and in person.
  • Ability to provide occasional on-call work outside of regular work hours to address critical incidents or system outages.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in systems monitoring or IT administration.

 

Preferences

  • Preference for candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Preference for candidates who hold certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Linux+, or a related credential.
  • Preference for candidates with experience automating monitoring tasks using scripting languages like Python or PowerShell.
  • Preference for candidates who have worked in cloud environments using monitoring tools like AWS CloudWatch or Azure Monitor.
  • Preference for proficiency with monitoring platforms like DataDog, Zabbix, SolarWinds, or Prometheus.
  • Preference for the ability to configure alerts, analyze logs, and respond to incidents to maintain system performance.
