The Work You Will Do:

This position serves as a System Project Consultant in the Division of Information Technology (IT). This position is responsible for the administration of the Department’s SQL database servers.

Pay: $65,000 - $83,000

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Manages the Department's SQL database servers primarily in Azure Cloud environment, that involves: Installing and configuring SQL server.  Monitoring and performance tuning; database back-up and recovery; data storage capacity planning; data security management; data transferring and converting; system hardware and software maintenance (such a replace failed system components and applying the latest service pack or patch); provide technical support to the application developers; provide secondary tier support to the end users.  Assist database designers by providing information on how different design features can benefit both system and users.  Analyze the data in the database and how that data can be accessed optimally.

 

  • Responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of delivering the services mentioned above.
  • Responsible for the timely maintenance and/or replacement of the hardware, software, processes and procedures, including coordination through the state datacenter provider, required to deliver these services. 
  • Advises and guides the Information Technology Division toward best practices of database management in order to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinates/assists the analysis, design, development, and implementation of the comprehensive IT systems.  Provides technical support, troubleshoots the Department's Internet/Intranet database backends.
  • Assists in the planning, design/modification and enhancement of new and existing database systems in the Department, maintaining the systems up to the latest version release.
  • Researches and evaluates new information technologies (hardware/software), including training on new database and operating systems. Provides technical advice to upper management to enhance performance and stability of existing database systems.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of performance tuning including code review, ability to perform monitoring, analysis and troubleshooting of the database environment and the applications that connect to it.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing and administration as applicable to database management.
  • Skill with using Microsoft SQL monitoring tools.
  • Skill in administering Microsoft SQL 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022.
  • Skill with Microsoft SQL reporting services.
  • Skill with Microsoft SQL server integration service.
  • Knowledge of ITIL concepts.

 

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records. 

 

Minimum:

  • Must be available for on-call as required.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with Azure SQL database administration.
  • Experience with SQL Server Cloud Migration
  • Possess Cloud certifications in areas of database management and infrastructure administration.
  • Experience with copying, backing up, and restoring databases.
  • Experience with a Windows clustered SQL environment
  • Experience with SQL performance tuning
  • Experience with SQL Reporting Services
  • Experience in the administration of Windows Server 2016 or higher.
