Anticipated Vacancy
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Manages the Department's SQL database servers, primarily in an Azure Cloud environment, within a fast-paced enterprise setting that supports a wide range of mission-critical applications.
Responsibilities include:
- Installing and configuring SQL Server.
- Monitoring and performance tuning.
- Database backup and recovery.
- Data storage capacity planning.
- Data security management.
- Data transfer and conversion.
- Applying service packs or patches as needed.
- Providing technical support to application developers and secondary tier support to end users.
- Assisting database designers by offering guidance on design features that benefit both the system and users.
- Analyzing database content and optimizing data access.
Additional responsibilities:
- Oversees timely maintenance and updates of software, processes, and procedures—including coordination with the state data center provider.
- Advises the Information Technology Division on database management best practices to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Coordinates and assists with the analysis, design, development, and implementation of comprehensive IT systems.
- Provides technical support and troubleshooting for the Department’s Internet/Intranet database backends.
- Assists in planning, designing/modifying, and enhancing new and existing database systems, keeping them current with the latest releases.
- Researches and evaluates new information technologies (hardware/software), including training on new database and operating systems.
- Provides technical advice to upper management to enhance performance and stability of existing database systems.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of performance tuning, including code review, monitoring, analysis, and troubleshooting of the database environment and connected applications.
- Knowledge of cloud computing and administration as it applies to database management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL monitoring tools.
- Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Reporting Services.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services.
- Familiarity with ITIL concepts.
Qualifications:
As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
Minimum:
- Must be available for on-call as required.
Preferred:
- Experience with Azure SQL database administration.
- Experience with SQL Server Cloud Migration
- Possess Cloud certifications in areas of database management and infrastructure administration.
- Experience with copying, backing up, and restoring databases.
- Experience with a Windows clustered SQL environment
- Experience with SQL performance tuning
- Experience with SQL Reporting Services
- Experience in the administration of Windows Server 2016 or higher.
Pay:
$65,000 - $77,000

This position serves as a Systems Project Consultant in the Division of Information Technology (IT). This position is responsible for the administration of the Department’s SQL database servers.
