Chief of Labor Market Statistics

Your Specific Responsibilities:
The Bureau Chief of Labor Market Statistics manages the production, analysis, and delivery of Florida’s official labor market statistics such as employment, unemployment, and wage data.
- Works cooperatively with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to meet over 300 federal contract deliverables.
- Oversees 70 staff members with a budget of almost $5 million.
- Participates actively within the federal/state cooperative statistical system with other states, the Workforce Information Council (WIC), policy councils, work groups, the LMI Institute, the Analyst Resource Center (ARC), the Projections Managing Partnership (PMP), the Estimates Delivery System (EDS), the Census Bureau’s Local Employment Dynamics (LED), and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA).
- Provides data and analysis for the Governor’s Office, the Legislature, Secretary of Commerce and Communications offices.
- Works closely to meet the data needs of CareerSource Florida, the 21 local workforce development boards, Enterprise Florida, local Economic Development Councils (EDCs), the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Economic Development Council (FDEC), and Education (the university and college systems, post-secondary education, and private post-secondary institutions).
- Prepares monthly press releases and supporting documents to release new labor statistics to the media; prepares responses for media requests; and hosts press conferences, as needed.
- Demonstrates strong customer service values in terms of response time, meeting due dates, and data accuracy.
- Makes public presentations serving as a keynote speaker at conferences, workshops, and before the Legislature.
- Improves and enhances internet data delivery applications for labor statistics; continues to build, enhance, and market the new Occupational Supply/Demand system.
- Promotes state capacity building through training, interaction, and outreach with other states and partner organizations; promotes strong software skills and analytical capabilities of staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge of statistical methods including modeling, sampling, estimating, and impact analysis.
- Possesses strong writing, editing, and analytic skills for publications, press releases, and data reports.
- Promotes data quality to improve economic decision-making for employers, job seekers, and other data users.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Public speaking ability.
Qualifications:
As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
Minimum:
- Must be able to travel and work overtime.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Economics.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing economic research and analysis, or related, activities.
Pay:
$90,000 - $120,000 annually.
