Minimum Biweekly Salary: $1,491.85 bi-weekly or $38,788.10 annually (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher).

DESCRIPTION
The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an Accountant III working within the cash receipting section. This position processes the incoming payments for Cost of Care and other miscellaneous payments. This position review and mail out invoices for Detention Cost Share to counties monthly. Duties are comprised of recording the department’s daily receipts using the accounting systems ARMS, FLAIR and PALM. Responsibilities include attention to detail for receiving, recording payments, assigning coding, and processing information into the ARMS and FLAIR system. All deposits must be scanned and validated in Axiom Pro. Responsible for checking the accuracy of transactions posted to the accounts and cross training other employees.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Process all Cost of Care mail in payments
- Review and mail Detention Cost Sharing invoices
- Research and respond to all inquiries regarding payments for Cost of Care accounts. Perform a detailed analysis of all transactions posted to an invoice or an entire account, as required.
- Update contact information for customers as required
- Record the Department’s daily receipts using the accounting subsystem (ARMS) and FLAIR.
- Ensure that receipts are properly received and recorded. Assign and review all coding entered into accounting sub-system (ARMS) and FLAIR for accuracy.
- Generate and reconcile supporting reports, compile supporting documentation for essential files, and deposit funds.
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of appropriate revenue, accounting entries, and process adjusting entries timely and accurately as needed
- Compliance with Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, Prompt Payment Law required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of State of Florida accounting policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of reconciliation procedures.
- Knowledge of Florida PALM and QuickBooks
- Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers, verbally and in writing.
- Skill in auditing, reviewing, reconciling, or analyzing data for compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining a variety of accurate and complete accounting reports.
- Skill in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage completing deadlines.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Ability to use sound judgment to identify problems, generate and evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to work well independently yet cohesively within the section to maintain internal control measures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates with FLAIR, Florida PALM, banking experience and Cost of Care experience
