ADVERTISING TITLE: Accountant III
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office of Finance & Accounting, COPS Section.
The mission of the Office of Finance & Accounting at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide accurate, timely, and relevant financial information and services to support the Department's mission. This includes ensuring fiscal responsibility, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting the Department's goals through effective financial management and reporting.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
Court Ordered Payment System (COPS):
- Keep It Accurate: Reviews and approves changes to payment forms from field offices, ensuring everything follows the rules.
- Refunds Galore: Handles and reconciles refunds for various fees like supervision, electronic monitoring, and drug testing.
- Offender Refunds: Reviews and approves refunds for offenders, making sure they get what they deserve.
- Dormant Accounts: Manages and reconciles funds in dormant accounts, keeping the money flowing smoothly.
- Problem Solvers: Helps probation officers and victims resolve account issues and reports any problems to the supervisor.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
