WORKING TITLE: ACCOUNTANT III

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office Financial Management.

The mission statement of the Office of Financial Management (OFM) within the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide accurate, timely, and relevant financial information and services to support the Department's mission of ensuring public safety, providing for the care and custody of inmates, and facilitating their successful reentry into society.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

• Manage Inmate Trust Fund Calls: Operate the multi-line phone system, assist callers, research inquiries, and route calls to appropriate staff members.
• Process Financial Entries: Enter inmate trust fund transactions into the automated accounting system accurately and efficiently.
• Audit and Resolve Discrepancies: Assist in auditing accounting batches, research and resolve differences, and prepare deposit slips as needed.
• Handle Disbursements and Correspondence: Audit daily disbursements/warrants, prepare them for mailing, and draft correspondence to internal and external parties.
• Manage Daily Mail and Inquiries: Process daily mail and respond to inquiries from internal and external parties, ensuring timely and accurate communication.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or its equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience answering a multi-line phone.
• At least two (2) or more years of general accounting or auditing experience or one (1) or more years of post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance.
• At least two (2) or more years of experience applying accounting principles and/or procedural, administrative, or statutory regulations to daily work assignments to ensure compliance.
• At least one (1) or more years of experience preparing financial statements or reports using Word, Excel and/or automated accounting systems.
• At least one (1) or more years of experience in accounting system data entry.
• Experience with trust fund/fiduciary accounting.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
