 ADVERTISING/WORKING TITLE: ACCOUNTANT III

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in Finance & Accounting.

The mission of the Finance and Accounting department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide accurate, timely, and transparent financial management and reporting.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Invoice Management: Process and distribute invoices received through various methods, ensuring timely and accurate preparation for payment of the department’s legal liabilities.
  • State Accounting Systems: Operate within state accounting systems, including MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP), FLAIR, BARS, Axiom Pro, FACTS, Information Warehouse, and FLAIR RDS.
  • Mail and Document Handling: Manage daily mail pickup, distribution of invoices, state warrants, and vendor statements, while maintaining organized files and records.
  • Vendor and Staff Support: Provide assistance to vendors and internal divisions with accounting records, financial information, and payment processes.
  • Research and Problem-Solving: Conduct detailed research using accounting, procurement, and payment programs to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a team environment while maintaining the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Specialized Requests: Assist with duplicate warrant requests, warrant cancellations, and other specialized tasks as needed.
  • Customer Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external customers, ensuring inquiries are addressed promptly and professionally.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledgeable of FLAIR, MFMP, Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to an accounting program.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use automated accounting systems, personal computers and general office equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Knowledge of DC rules, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records.
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to design and implement accounting systems.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
