WORKING TITLE: ACCOUNTANT IV

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL, in Finance and Accounting.

The mission of the Finance and Accounting Department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the responsible management of the Department's financial resources.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

• Bank Reconciliations: Complete weekly bank reconciliations for the Court Ordered Payment System (COPS), including disbursement and depository accounts.
• QuickBooks Management: Oversee QuickBooks for the Court Ordered Payment System.
• Report Auditing: Audit and review CDC 107 reports, CDC allocation reports, and both short and long CDC 85-reports.
• Financial Reporting: Download, save, and print COPS financial reports and bank statements, and review daily positive pay exceptions.
• Check Processing: Maintain the COPS bank and check registers, generate and approve daily check printing forms, and manage chargeback spreadsheets.
• Customer Service: Answer the COPS helpline and handle customer service inquiries.
• Software Maintenance: Maintain the ACOM Systems EZPay Suite check printing software and complete daily bank reconciliations.
• Year-End Preparation: Assist with preparing year-end financial statements and supporting schedules, manage address change requests, and process digital disbursements.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Must possess experience with QuickBooks or other General Ledger Computer Systems, Account Reconciliations, Auditing, Bookkeeping or Banking.

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess experience or knowledge of tools such as FLAIR, MFMP, Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Must possess knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
• Must have the ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to an accounting program.
• Must have the ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
