WORKING TITLE: ACCOUNTANT IV

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL, in Finance and Accounting. 

The mission of the Finance and Accounting Department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the responsible stewardship of the Department's financial resources.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

• Compliance Assurance: Ensure adherence to §215.422 F.S., State Expenditure guidelines, department procedures, HIPAA, and other fiscal standards for accurate and timely payments.
• Entry Verification: Process entries using systems like Ariba on Demand (AOD/MFMP), FLAIR, PALM, BARS, CAIRS, and Axiom Pro.
• Invoice Auditing: Audit invoices for proper certification, authorization, and accuracy, identifying and correcting any discrepancies.
• Accounting Review: Review and approve accounting entries by other accountants to ensure compliance with state principles and department procedures.
• Document Management: Maintain organized and updated automated files of source documents and related reports.
• Report Monitoring: Monitor daily and weekly invoice and encumbrance reports, taking appropriate action and following up on outstanding items.
• Voucher Analysis: Analyze vouchers daily to ensure they are current, complete, accurate, and ready for quality assurance in Axiom Pro.
• Support and Training: Provide timely accounting support to staff, vendors, and auditors, maintain required training hours, and assist with year-end closing activities and special projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Must be permitted to have access to Department Institutions and FLAIR.
• Must possess two (2) years of experience in administrative work, accounting, or auditing.
  • Postsecondary education may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
