Preferences:

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate.
  • Two (2) years or more of professional accounting or auditing experience.
  • Payroll experience in an office setting.
  • Experience with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Tax Forms (W-2, W-2c, 941, 941x, W-4, and 1099).
  • Experience with Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR) or Florida Planning, Accounting, and Ledger Management (PALM) accounting systems.
  • Professional experience in compiling and analyzing fiscal data.
  • Professional auditing or accounting experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to conduct tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected. Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations and solve problems. Knowledge proven abilities in accounting and tax research skills, knowledge and prove skills with Payroll/IRS forms such as 941, 941x, W-2, W-2c, and 1099. Ability to conduct fact-finding research and utilize problem solving techniques. Knowledge of personal computer applications such as Visio, Word, Excel spreadsheets, and database applications. Ability to communicate with employees both individually and in staff meetings. Ability to work independently. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

 

Based on experience, this position will be hired at an annual salary range of $56,452.33 - $59,274.94.

 

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

 

Responses to qualifying questions must be clearly supported by the state application and any omission, falsification, or misrepresentation in the answering of the qualifying questions will be cause for immediate elimination from the selection process.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Responsible for researching and responding to IRS tax questions, IRS notices, IRS tax changes, and IRS tax liabilities faced by the Bureau that may require systems modifications or development. Stay abreast of any IRS tax changes and communicate with other Taxation and Reconciliation Section employees via email.

 

Monitor and assist with all W-2 and W-2C functions daily, monthly, quarterly, and annually. Review the monthly reconciliation of Forms W-2 and W-2C and resolve any issues.

 

Assist with monitoring daily the need for any unscheduled deposits and assist as needed in initiating IRS tax deposits to the Internal Revenue Service as the highest of priorities, ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of tax deposits. Ability to calculate taxes on payroll documentation and payroll questions. Independently answer tax and payroll phone calls and email communications as needed.

 

Assist and monitor the daily W-2C reconciliation, act as the bureau liaison for W-2 and W-2C filing, ordering quality Form W-2 paper and envelopes, coordinating the submission of electronic original W-2 files annually and electronic W-2C files quarterly.

 

Document and monitor agency treatment of employees and contractors. Take required corrective actions as needed per Department of Financial Services policy. Document and log all corrective actions. Responsible for documenting and maintaining all Taxation processes in detail.
