DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent in this position will be responsible for conducting and completing aviation missions in support of FDLE investigations, protective operations, and mutual aid incidents. Additionally, when the incumbent is not involved in aviation activities, he/she will perform activities in support of the Aviation Unit and the Office of Strategic Justice Programs, Aviation and Preparedness Division. Other tasks may include training, participating in flight operations procedures, maintenance tasks, and safety efforts of the Aviation Unit.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The incumbent must live within a 50-mile radius of Tallahassee, FL. The incumbent will be required to travel within and outside the state of Florida for multiple days. The missions assigned will dictate the schedules and locations. The incumbent will further be required to sign a 3-year training agreement upon hiring (if the position being offered requires the incumbent to attend aviation training courses paid by FDLE).
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a commercial pilot with an instrument rating, possess a multi-engine fixed wing rating, at least 50 hours of night flight time, 50 hours of instrument flight time, 500 hours multi-engine Pilot in Command and a minimum of 1500 hours total flight time.
Must possess or obtain a valid FAA Class II medical certificate prior to employment. Applicants not currently rated for a FDLE aircraft will be required to complete training. Salary will increase accordingly once training is complete. Preference will be given to applicants, regardless of hours to whom possess the below, as well as experience as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), or Airframe and/or Powerplant Mechanic (A&P):
- Type rating for a Cessna Citation 680A (Latitude / Sovereign);
- Airline Transport Pilot’s certificate;
- Sworn law enforcement experience;
- Florida law enforcement certification;
- Four-year degree from accredited college or university;
- Type rating for a Beechcraft King Air 350;
- Flight instructor certification;
- Rotorcraft Helicopter rating.
- Certified A&P Mechanic, with or without inspection authority; and
- Aviation Program Management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration Regulations;
- Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
- Skill in operating navigational aids;
- Skill in flying under instrument conditions;
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on aircraft;
- Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations;
- Ability to probe and obtain critical facts;
- Ability to describe facts and events accurately;
- Ability to analyze and interpret data;
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate logs, records and reports;
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
- Ability to communicate effectively; and
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
BASE SALARY:
- $90,000-$130,000
Salary for the position will be commensurate with experience and training.
