WORKING TITLE: ASSISTANT BUREAU CHIEF
This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL, in Finance & Accounting.
The mission of the Finance & Accounting Department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the responsible management of the Department's financial resources through accurate accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Finance and Accounting Oversight: Assist in directing, planning, and organizing central office accounting functions, including managing accounting systems, records, financial reports, and vendor payments while ensuring compliance with the state’s prompt payment law.
- Policy Development and Compliance: Establish and implement technical policies and procedures to ensure adherence to state and departmental regulations and contribute to fiscal management decisions by drafting policies and participating in key meetings.
- Internal Controls and Risk Management: Evaluate and enhance internal control procedures for existing and proposed accounting systems, addressing weaknesses to safeguard departmental assets.
- Administrative and Audit Support: Provide administrative support through participation in committees, task forces, and special assignments, while collaborating with internal, state, and federal auditors to resolve complex accounting and financial issues.
- Financial Reporting and Year-End Closeout: Assist in preparing financial schedules, reports, and special analyses, and support fiscal year-end closeout processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have seven (7) or more years of accounting, finance or any other business-related field experience.
- Postsecondary education may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience with FL PALM.
- Experience with MyFloridaMarketPlace/Ariba on Demand.
- Experience in developing and implementing complex policies and procedures.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
