WORKING TITLE: ASSISTANT CHIEF
This open competitive advertisement will be used to fill two (2) SES (Selected Exempt Service) Assistant Bureau Chief positions in the Bureau of Classification Management located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL.
The main function of the Bureau of Classification Management is the support of classification field staff in their direct responsibilities in the case management of the inmate population from reception through release. The Bureau is also responsible for maintaining the system that drives all classification processes as well as processes from other Bureaus and entities.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
The Assistant Bureau Chief’s of Classification Management are responsible for managing and directing the daily operations of the offices of Classification Services and Systems Development, Inactive Inmate Public Records, and Unannounced Classification Audits. As well as the offices of State Classification, Community Release Programs and Electronic Monitoring.
- Coordinates the activities and assigned workload to ensure the Bureau’s support of classification field staff in case management of the inmate population from reception through release and maintaining the system that drives all classification processes. Supervise, motivate, train and evaluate the work of employees, with authority to hire, transfer or discipline subordinate staff.
- Provide leadership and direction by setting unit goals and objectives, developing necessary policy, and ensuring that the quality and quantity of work performed by the unit meets the Department’s expectations and accomplishes the established mission.
- Establishing and maintaining relevant controls and systems to monitor the operations of classification statewide. Manages all processes in such a manner to ensure that work objectives, time cycle objectives, and workflow are efficient and effective.
- Ensures consistent application of the Department’s rules, procedures, and technical directives. Evaluation of current policies, procedures, rules, and manuals for revisions and the development of the same.
- Provides Legislative review and analysis of Senate and House Bills. Assesses any fiscal or operational impact of proposed legislative changes or court decisions and drafts rules, procedures, and technical manuals as required by legislative and/or procedural changes affected.
- Responsible for the development and coordination of statewide training meetings and events for classification officers; the review, oversight and final approval of critical classification decisions and recommendations and effective automation development, testing, maintenance and oversite of all classification systems.
- Manage the preparation and maintenance of reports necessary to carry out the mission and goals of the Department and bureau.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have five (5) or more years of experience in Classification at the Classification Supervisor level (or higher) with the Florida Department of Corrections.
- Must have experience in analyzing legislation or developing rules, policies, or procedures.
- Must have experience in providing training to staff in a classroom setting.
