This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in Population Management.
The mission statement of Population Management in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to effectively manage the inmate population to ensure safety, security, and efficient use of resources within correctional facilities, while supporting the department's goals of rehabilitation and public safety.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Lead strategic planning and coordination for the lawful and efficient management of the state prison population in collaboration with senior leadership and legal teams.
- Oversee Population Management and Inmate Assignment operations, directing reception, transfer processes, and youthful offender programming with policy development and legislative input.
- Supervise and support staff performance, workload prioritization, and leave coordination to ensure seamless unit operations.
- Manage statewide inmate bed space capacities, monitor compliance with Florida Statutes, and maintain critical reports for effective population allocation.
- Analyze inmate population trends to inform planning for housing, budgeting, staffing, and construction, providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Coordinate operational issues for Private Correctional Facilities, ensuring adherence to capacity, population types, and transfer agreements.
- Serve on the Department’s Emergency Management Team to address bed and transportation needs during crises such as hurricanes, floods, fires, and riots.
- Execute additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the Bureau of Population Management.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years working in corrections, with five years in a supervisory position.
- Must have experience with transfers and management of a prison population.
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current employee with the Florida Department of Corrections.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
