Job Description
The Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC), an independent constitutional entity established under Article V of the Florida Constitution, is responsible for investigating allegations of judicial misconduct involving Florida judges. The JQC is seeking a qualified attorney to serve as Assistant General Counsel. The Assistant General Counsel performs highly responsible legal work including the review, investigation, and prosecution of judicial misconduct matters. The position provides legal advice and analysis to the Commission, Executive Director, and General Counsel; conducts investigations; litigates judicial discipline cases; and assists in representing the Commission in legal proceedings and advising on matters affecting the Commission's operations.
Working under the general supervision of the Executive Director and receiving assignments and direction from the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel exercises considerable independent judgment in conducting investigations, preparing legal documents, prosecuting disciplinary matters before the Commission's Hearing Panels, and providing legal analysis and opinions to support the Commission's mission.
The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review and evaluate complaints alleging violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct and related laws.
- Conduct investigations, and all phases of litigation associated with judicial discipline matters, as assigned.
- Conduct legal research, and prepare pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, reports, and other legal documents.
- Advise the Executive Director, General Counsel, and Commission on legal, policy, and regulatory matters.
- Assist with Commission meetings, investigative and hearing panel proceedings, and related materials.
- Coordinate and collaborate with investigators, special counsel, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the Commission in legal proceedings, as assigned.
- Assist with public information initiatives, educational presentations, training, and other activities supporting the Commission's mission.
Education and Training Guidelines
Education

- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school is required for this position.
- Requires membership in Good Standing with The Florida Bar.
Experience
Refers to the amount of related work experience that is recommended for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the required tasks. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis, excluding supervisory experience.
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a licensed attorney, with a preference for experience in a specialty area relevant to the position. Such relevant experience may include, but is not limited to, service as a prosecutor or defense attorney, experience in a lawyer regulation environment as a prosecutor or defense attorney, or legal experience with an ethics or other professional regulatory body.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and present legal matters clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships while managing confidential matters with professionalism, integrity, and independent judgment.
- Ability to use computers and Microsoft Office suite of programs.
