Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Finance and Accounting Director II is located in the Division of Administrative Services, Bureau of Accounting.  This is a responsible, high-level position that supervises the payroll functions for the Department. This position will supervise Accountants within the Payroll Section and ensure the accuracy of all payroll cycles and resolve any problems encountered. This position will work with People First and DFS’ Bureau of State Payrolls to ensure any new updates to payroll functions are properly implemented. This position will provide special reports as needed/requested. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to supervise small staff of employees
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Skill in using the Florida Accounting Information Resource Payroll system (FLAIR PYRL) and People First system
  • Knowledge of State of Florida payroll functions
  • Knowledge of State of Florida accounting policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic, office procedures and practices
  • Skill in auditing, reviewing, reconciling or analyzing data for compliance with regulatory requirements, policies and procedures
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage completing deadlines
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work assignments
  • Ability to use sound judgement to identify problems, generate and evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations
  • Skill in coordinating work assignments as well as establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with others

 

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience providing customer service
  • Experience using the Florida Accounting Information Resource Payroll system (FLAIR PYRL) and People First system
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in processing payroll transactions

 

General Information

  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
