Assistant Vice Chancellor of Strategic Planning & Policy, Academic & Student Affairs (3815) SES Position

The Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) assumes a leadership role within the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, the office responsible for providing leadership and coordination via collaborative data collection, research, analysis, policy development, and strategic planning for academic, student, research, and economic development issues that affect the State University System.  The AVC reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and serves as part of the Vice Chancellor’s leadership team, assisting in project management; research and policy design; coordination of selected operational aspects of the unit; helping teams execute plans; and effectively communicating relevant project information to colleagues, the Vice Chancellor, Chancellor, and other appropriate stakeholders.         

Responsibilities, duties, and activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide leadership in the implementation of the Board’s 2030 Strategic Plan (SUS 30), which includes working with key stakeholders within the SUS and beyond to ensure the System is on track to meet the goals of SUS 30;
  • Assists the Vice Chancellor in planning and organizing specific Board committee meetings, with related follow-up activities, and staff and/or present at specific Board committee or full Board meetings;
  • Assist the Vice Chancellor and the academic and student affairs team with the implementation of the Board’s regulatory functions;
  • Serve as project lead for targeted strategic initiatives and projects, such as the State University System’s commitment to support the Florida workforce and key economic development initiatives in the state;
  • Engage with external stakeholders in business and industry to facilitate partnerships within the State University System;
  • Represent the Board and System before individuals and groups across the state and nation.
  • Provides administrative support for other units within the Board office

           

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, public administration, business administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of eight years of experience at a state/system level higher education office or university/college in administration, policy implementation, or strategic planning
  • Experience at a state-level organization that works with education entities will also satisfy

Preferred Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute major projects promptly with key deliverables. 
  • Effective organizational skills and problem-solving techniques. 
  • Ability and skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing; critical thinking and analysis; motivating, developing, and directing staff; editing and revising written documents and PowerPoints for a variety of audiences. 
  • Experience presenting to external stakeholders, legislature, and/or executive boards. 
  • Experience facilitating workgroups.

Hiring Range
Salary range $115,000 - $130,000 based on qualifications and experience.
