JOB SUMMARY:
This attorney position is responsible for representing the Florida Department of Revenue in bankruptcy matters related to the collection of state taxes and child support obligations for which the Department has responsibility. Under the general direction of the Chief Legal Counsel for the Bankruptcy Unit of the Office of the General Counsel, the attorney will be responsible for reviewing, defending, and negotiating settlement of claims filed by the Department where objections have been raised. This position will require appearances at preliminary hearings before Chapter 13 Trustees as well as bankruptcy judges via Zoom and in person. Further, the attorney will work with the Chief Legal Counsel, in representation of the Department in all phases of bankruptcy litigation, including research, preparation of pleadings, discovery, preparation of witnesses, hearing attendance, settlement negotiations, and trials as necessary.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to the Florida Bar.
PREFERENCES:
- Preference will be given to candidates admitted to at least one Federal District Court.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior bankruptcy experience.
SPECIAL NOTES:
- This advertisement is for Selected Exempt Services (SES) position(s) in the Office of the General Counsel located in Tallahassee. Candidates may be considered for voluntary assignment to Florida Department of Revenue GTA Service Centers in the following cities: Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa or West Palm Beach.
- The selected candidate will be required to gain admission to the Federal District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
- The anticipated annual salary is $64,000.00.
SALARY: $45,542.88 - $63,999.96 / annually
