The Work You Will Do:

The Attorney position is primarily responsible for performing administrative prosecution of violations for assigned professions under the jurisdiction of the department including Chapter 455, Florida Statutes, and all applicable practice acts.  Responsible for analyzing assigned cases as determined by the Attorney Supervisor, timely resolution of cases through effective case management.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Analyzes violations of statutes or administrative rules for regulated professions and recommends appropriate action;
  • Researches/drafts/reviews/amends pleadings, complaints, motions, dismissal orders, consent orders, settlement agreements and memoranda of law;
  • Negotiates settlements;
  • Reviews, edits and evaluates proposed rule packages;
  • Responds to consumer and industry inquiries;
  • Analyzes bills;
  • Compiles exhibits;
  • Prepares witnesses to testify;
  • Takes and defends depositions;
  • Initiates and responds to discovery;
  • Prosecutes and defends enforcement actions before the Division of Administrative Hearings and the agency's informal hearing officer.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Must have a valid driver's license; and
  • Must have a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Must be a current member of The Florida Bar or pass the Florida Bar exam within one year of appointment to this position.
