This open competitive advertisement is for a Select Exempt position located in Tallahassee Florida in Facilities Management and Building Construction Division.
The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
This is a high-level leadership position that provides executive leadership and oversight for all four Regions with 2000 buildings and over 22 million square feet, ensuring consistency and standards in infrastructure, Maintenance and Construction statewide. This position bridges the gap between high-level strategic planning and statewide complex regional execution. This role ensures our multi-million-dollar statewide operations remain resilient, compliant, and ready for rapid emergency response.
- Budgetary and Fiscal Oversight:
The position involves conducting budget analyses, tracking project expenditures, and preparing Legislative Budget Requests (LBR) and Capital Improvement Project Planning - Personnel and Workload Management:
Responsible for overseeing approximately 475 staff members across regions, balancing workloads to prevent burnout, fostering accountability and morale, and identifying developmental needs through coaching and mentoring. - Facility Maintenance and Emergency Leadership:
Oversees facility maintenance programs, coordinates with regulatory bodies and contractors, and leads emergency operations (e.g., hurricanes and disasters) to ensure infrastructure recovery and operational continuity. - Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Leads quality assurance reviews to ensure adherence to department procedures, state/federal regulations, and occupational safety standards, while managing construction and renovation projects to meet environmental, health, and security requirements. - Strategic Planning and Reporting:
Engages in long-term infrastructure planning, architectural and engineering design, operational report assessments, and project prioritization to minimize risks, ensure efficiency, and maintain public safety.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10 or more years of experience in building maintenance and repairs, architecture, engineering, construction management, or a business-related area. A degree or certificate may substitute on year for year basis for up to 4 years of experience.
- 10 or more years of supervisory/managerial experience with 5 of more of those years having personnel management experience.
- 5 or more years of experience in facility maintenance, emergency response, or infrastructure management.
- 5 or more years of experience in budget preparation, financial analysis, or fiscal management.
- A valid Driver’s License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in Correctional Institution maintenance.
- Experience in AIMs system for workload management.
