Minimum qualifications: A high school diploma and 7 years professional experience in a closely related biological field or laboratory program is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field can substitute for four of the 7 years of required experience.

Prefer a bachelor’s degree in a life or physical science. A bachelor’s degree in a life or physical science can substitute for the required experience

Description of Duties:

This is not an entry level position. The position will have statewide oversite of the Aquatic Plant Control and Triploid Grass Carp permitting programs. Responsible for interpreting rules and regulations, providing staff guidance and insuring all permits are issued in accordance with the appropriate rules and statutes and there is consistency in permitting throughout the state. Responsible for non-compliance and enforcement actions, working with upper administration and the FWC Legal Office in preparing enforcement documents, and restoration requirements. Works with the FWC Office of Information Technology to maintain and enhance the Aquatic Plant control and Triploid Grass Carp permitting applications and databases. Assists in the development or modification of rules and regulations of Chapter 369.20 F.S., 369.22 F.S., 68F-20 F.A.C., 379.501 through 379.504 F.S.

The incumbent for this position will assist in organizing, coordinating and directing the activities of the field operations subsection. Assist in reviewing workloads, staff assignments, and monitoring permitting responsibilities to ensure timely processing of permits and consistency between offices.

The incumbent will assist in filling staff vacancies including developing criteria for advertising open positions, interviewing and making hire recommendations. They will identify staff deficiencies and provide staff direction and training as needed.

The incumbent will assist subsection biologists in the development, implementation and review of invasive plant management operations as needed. Provide oversight of Section’s early detection rapid response priorities.

The incumbent is also expected to work closely and effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent may be required to serve on multiple agency teams, help lead agency teams, or serve on interagency work groups.

The incumbent’s supervisory responsibilities include direct supervision of 3 FTE positions, with oversight of additional FTE and OPS staff within the subsection.

The incumbent is also responsible for other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.

It is expected that all FWC employees courteously assist Commission constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have on matters relating to the Commission, its programs or fish and wildlife conservation in general; and garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida's citizens in a positive and proactive manner.

  • experience working with the public and/or stakeholder representatives.
  • The ability to travel for several days at a time throughout Florida.
