Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly professional position supervised by the HIV Surveillance Data Analysis Manager within the HIV/AIDS Section. The position will apply advanced epidemiological concepts, conducting-depth epidemiological analysis of HIV data sets, available related data sources from various public health programs, and data from non-Department of Health sources that are aligned with the functions of the HIV/AIDS Section. The position requires excellent customer service, organizational, technical writing, and problem-solving skills as part of the routine expectation of surveillance and epidemiological analysis, which serves to inform policy and guide operational decisions in the Section's efforts to prevent and control the transmission of HIV in Florida.
Develop, design, and deliver comprehensive HIV programmatic reports for both internal and external use. These include but are not limited to; slide sets, fact sheets, research publications, peer review papers, quality assurance/technical assistance visits, reports related to special projects, behavioral and socio-demographic analysis, responses to requests from field operations and community partners, customized reports appropriate lo special requests from various offices within the Department, and reports associated with grant requirements utilized by the Section. Acts as a resource for statistical interpretation on the reports as needed.
Apply in-depth epidemiological data analysis to identify trends and significant disease distribution traits using both descriptive data analysis and other statistical/analytical modeling as appropriate. Collaborate with other Units in the Surveillance Program as needed to further investigate HIV data trends. Provide technical consultation to the HIV/AIDS Section, within the Bureau and with field staff regarding current HIV trends and alert leadership as appropriate through meetings, reports, or presentations of disease trends.
Assist the Data Analysis Unit Manager with program planning and evaluation, including the development and monitoring of programmatic disease indicators and prepare and provide data for short-term and long-term planning on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Assist the Data Analysis Unit Manager with epidemiology profiles required for CDC grant applications. Respond to ad hoc data requests for HIV disease trends as required with limited supervision prepare scientific and community presentations, peer reviewed manuscripts and scientific abstracts for national and statewide conferences related to HIV and associated co-morbidities in Florida.
Respond to inquiries from CDC, the Department of Health and other entities concerning the status of current surveillance activities in Florida.
Provides epidemiology mentoring to Data Analysis Unit staff and academic mentees as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of epidemiological concepts, Intermediate to advanced knowledge of statistical software programming experience in SAS (or SQL or R), Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis; Knowledge of program planning and evaluation; Ability to communicate effectively using various methods (oral, written); Critical thinking skills; Ability to work independently or part of a team.
Qualifications:
Minimum - High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
Master's or higher degree in either Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics or similar
