The Department of Management Services (DMS) is a customer-oriented agency responsible for managing various business-related functions throughout state government. Under the direction of Florida Governor Rick Scott and the executive leadership team at DMS, the agency oversees the real estate, procurement, human resources, group insurance, retirement, telecommunications, private prisons, and fleet and federal property assistance programs utilized throughout Florida’s state government. The Department of Management Services is relied upon to establish, maintain and improve the business processes used by state employees in doing their jobs to serve our Floridians. Department of Management Services staff facilitates the delivery of these programs and services and provides tools and training to bolster the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s workforce. Position responsibilities:

This position is required to perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs.  Requires specific technician/trades experience relating to electrical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) and mechanical systems. Such duties and responsibilities require the incumbent to accomplish tasks related to electrical and mechanical systems. This entails all phases of electrical work, including remodeling of office space, upgrading electrical services, hard wiring for computer, computer cabling and conduit runs, troubleshooting, and upgrading wiring for heat and air conditioning equipment motor control circuits, motors, transformers, and service equipment. In addition, this position is responsible for knowing and having a working knowledge of the blueprints and schematic drawings associated with each building and its equipment. This position reports to the Capitol Building in Tallahassee.

General Responsibilities:

Maintenance Duties

Perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on building equipment.

Inspect equipment, analyze trouble and plan sequence of repair operations.

Investigate complaints and equipment malfunctions.

Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.

Analyze performance of equipment.

Performs maintenance on electrical systems.

Repair receptacles; pull new circuits for electrical, run EMT & PVC conduit, change out breakers. 

Assist the maintenance staff with monitoring or adjusting the Energy Management, Fire Protection and Security Systems.

Assist outside contractors and others as needed.

Participates in mentoring and training Maintenance Mechanics and Maintenance Support Technicians.


Total renovation of office space and computer facilities to accommodate building tenants.

This work includes relocating and adding additional lighting, convenience outlets, computer outlets, computer equipment, power for select office equipment, and conduit runs for telephone and computer equipment.


Additional light fixtures, 120/208V and 277/480V

Additional power devices and wall outlets.

Additional motors and motor control circuits 120/208V and 277/480V, single phase and three phases.

Dedicated and isolated ground circuitry for computer service.

Additional transformers, and panel boards, and related service equipment, 120/208V, single phase and three phase, 277V/480V single phase and three phase.

Additional computer cabling.

Additional conduit runs as necessary.

Administrative Duties:

Employee is expected to conduct administrative tasks in the performance of his daily job duties. These tasks include but are not limited to:

Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Accurately enter time worked, leave requests and leave taken into the People First system.

Accurately enter and maintain data in the work order and PM system.

Operate a computer to check email, create and respond to assigned work request, conduct research, locate and order repair parts.

Maintain vehicle logs and ensure vehicle maintenance is performed at established intervals.

Public Relations Duties:

Incumbent maintains good public relations with peers, supervision and tenants in the building.

Establishes and maintains good working relationship with others.

Maintains a good rapport with tenants, co-workers and supervisors in buildings; keeps them informed of any unusual situation and is available to answer questions and requests.

Excellent public relations skills are required since this position is in continuous contact with both tenants and the public.

It is required that a courteous and respectful behavior be displayed at all times.

A professional image is needed, as this position represents the department to both the public and tenants.

Other Miscellaneous Duties:

Ability to read and understand blueprints.

Perform all work in a safe manner.

Reports all safety problems to Facilities Manager.

Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications

Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical and high voltage work.
  • Knowledge and operation of computer applications i.e. Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Skill in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions.
  • Ability to read blueprints.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four years of electrical experience in installing, maintaining and repairing commercial/industrial electrical equipment and components; or primary high voltage installations, maintenance and repairs.
  • Must have experience in the fundamentals of electrical engineering calculations as they pertain to metering and load calculations.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship and possession of a Journeyman/Master Wireman’s Certificate.

  • Physical Characteristics: This position requires prolonged periods of time walking, standing, bending, lifting and the use of all types of ladders and occasional use of personnel lift.
  • Ability to climb ladders in excess of ten feet in height.
  • Ability to properly operate a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or move weight in excess of 100 pounds.
  • On-Call Assignment – This position is subject to call back and is required to provide primary response to after-hour and weekend facility related emergencies and to accommodate program activities.
  • Valid Class E Driver’s License
