We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, forward-thinking individual to serve as a key member within the Office of Communications of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible, professional position that provides support to the Office of Communications under the direction of the Deputy Communications Director. Duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Drafting written communication for social media, newsletters, articles and related items; aiding with managing department external affairs and outreach initiatives as necessary, including writing executive-level speeches for individuals representing the agency; providing assistance in updating the department’s intranet and external website. Work with the Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director to research, craft, develop, and implement an Integrated Communications Plan to advance the Department’s brand identity, broaden awareness, and increase the visibility of the Department’s mission, programs, and priorities across key stakeholder audiences.
  • Working on special projects as assigned by the Office of the Secretary, including booklets, partnerships, videos, etc.; brainstorming, planning and executing internal and external events, including conferences, expos, panel discussions, etc.; facilitating partnerships with large groups/organizations to maximize outreach and reinforce goals/initiatives.
  • Serving as Public Information Officer (PIO) for joint sting operations by the Division of Regulation with other agencies; signing and routing all sting operation forms; updating the Division of Regulation’s Unlicensed Activity webpage on a regular basis; drafting press releases regarding the Division of Regulation’s efforts. Plan, research, develop, market, produce, present, and write promotional, educational, instructional, and informational material regarding agency or division programs, including Unlicensed Activity. Contribute to improvement of the Department’s media outreach to amplify agency values and messages.

 

  • Assisting with answering media calls, gathering information, preparing reports, and daily administrative activities as necessary. Track and report content effectiveness metrics to internal stakeholders, as well as continually monitor, analyze, and tune messaging to maximize impact.
  • Assist with development of strategy and plans for proactive and reactive communications related to media and agency social media channels, including drafting written communication for social media, newsletters, articles and related items; aiding with managing department external affairs and outreach initiatives as necessary, including writing speeches for individuals representing the agency; providing assistance in updating the department’s intranet and external website.
  • Creating and editing graphics for use in internal and external newsletters, brochures, events, etc. to enhance the overall communications efforts and goals of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in social media platforms, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Proficient in Canva Pro.
  • Experience in the design and layout of magazines, newspapers, or flyers.
  • Must be reliable, have a professional appearance, and a positive attitude.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • One (1) year of professional work experience in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a comparable field of study
  • Experience using publishing software programs like Adobe Creative Suite, Lightroom and InDesign.

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to speak and write Spanish a plus, though not required.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study is preferred. Professional experience in communications, or a closely related field, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the preferred college education.
