Overview:
The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.
The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Director will work under the direction of the Executive Director of the FGCC and will:
- Oversee all aspects of the commission's communication and public relations program.
- Develop a public relations strategy based on knowledge or establishment of policy or in response to the commission's needs.
- Represent the commission during community projects and public, social, and business gatherings.
- Respond to inquiries from news media and the public.
- Direct and coordinate the commission's publicity activities, including preparing and distributing fact sheets, news releases, photographs, scripts, and multimedia presentations to media representatives and others.
- Plan and direct the development and communication of informational programs or publications to inform the public of the commission's services, accomplishments, or activities.
- Confer and consult with individuals, groups, and committees to determine needs and plans to implement and extend the commission's programs and services.
- Provide expert counsel to the commission's management in effective communication with the public.
- Determine organizational policies, define the services' scope, and administer procedures.
- Confer with legal staff to assist in presenting the commission's public relations.
- Create reports of public relations activities.
- Review, edit, and prepare FGCC public reports.
- Assist the web team with the FGCC website.
- Communicate and manage social media queries.
- Speak to community groups to explain and interpret the commission's purpose, programs, and policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of public relations, public information, mass communications, journalism, news reporting, editing, advertising, or marketing.
- Knowledge of the rules of grammar and punctuation.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and best practices to maximize its use.
- Highly skilled in public speaking.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and OneNote).
- Ability to edit and direct the dissemination of information for the media or the public.
- Ability to develop and coordinate films, radio shows, and television spot announcements.
- Ability to research topics and write articles or prepare information for dissemination.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to use independent judgment in handling media inquiries and news releases.
- Ability to manage a public information and public relations program.
- Ability to formulate policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. AP style is a plus.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to analyze information and public relations needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of professional communications experience in a leadership role; or
- A bachelor’s degree in communications or public relations and (1) year of professional communications experience in a leadership role.
