This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Bureau of Classification Management - Classification Services and Systems Development.

The purpose of the Correctional Services Consultant is to independently manage and support corrections programs by applying expertise in criminal justice, conducting analytical research, ensuring policy compliance, and fostering effective communication and leadership within the organization.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

• Knowledge and Expertise: Strong understanding of corrections, administrative principles, criminal justice systems, problem-solving techniques, and effective communication methods. Proficiency in computer applications like Microsoft Office, Adobe tools, and database systems such as OBIS/CDC.
• Analytical and Research Skills: Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate data, conduct audits and reviews, perform factfinding research and draw valid conclusions to make informed recommendations.
• Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Skilled in verbal and written communication, maintaining professional relationships, working collaboratively with others, and handling confidential information appropriately.
• Organizational and Leadership Abilities: Capable of planning, organizing, and directing program activities, developing and coordinating statewide programs, and assisting in managing corrections programs independently.
• Policy and Compliance Knowledge: Proficient in interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and departmental policies, as well as formulating policies and procedures to ensure compliance and effective operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

• Must possess five (5) years of experience working in a professional Classification, Correctional Officer Series, or Probation Officer position (professional classification includes Classification Officer or higher; Correctional Services Assistant Consultant or higher).
• Must have at least:
  • ONE (1) year of experience as a Classification Supervisor or above; or
  • At least FOUR (4) years of experience as a Senior Classification Officer; or
  • At least TWO (2) years of experience as a Senior Classification Officer and a college degree.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
