This internal advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in Policy Management and Inmate Appeals.
The mission of the Policy Management and Inmate Appeals department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the development, implementation, and oversight of policies and procedures that govern the operations of the Department.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Statewide Grievance Coordination: Assist in developing, administering, and coordinating the statewide inmate grievance procedure.
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor institution/facility compliance with Chapter 33-29 and Chapter 944.331, Florida Statutes.
- Central Office Representation: Act as the Secretary’s representative for inmate grievances filed at the central office, supervising and managing assigned staff.
- Documentation Management: Coordinate with the Attorney General’s Office to acquire and provide requested documentation.
- Regional Presence: Maintain direct contact with inmates within the assigned region to monitor compliance and address grievances.
- Policy Guidance: Provide guidance to wardens, assistant wardens, and institutional staff on grievance procedures and department rules, recommending policy revisions as needed.
- Training and Support: Serve as a regional grievance consultant, providing training and guidance to inmate grievance coordinators and conducting staff meetings.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Develop reports and tracking systems to monitor grievance processes, evaluate outcomes, and identify trends, making recommendations to prevent potential problems.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience handling inmate grievances.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience working in classification, security, sentence structure or inmate grievances.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience working in an institution setting.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
