This internal advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Bureau of Admission & Release.

The mission of the Bureau of Admission & Release in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to manage the intake, classification, and release processes of inmates with accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to legal and procedural requirements.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Manages the Commitment Auditing Unit ensuring accurate inmate sentence data and correct release date calculations to maintain public safety.
  • Identifies and resolves technical and operational problems affecting sentence data accuracy, and audits complex sentence structures to comply with laws and court decisions.
  • Reviews and restructures complex cases to ensure they follow court sentencing instructions, resolving any inconsistencies and technical issues to maintain accurate release dates.
  • Analyzes internal processes and implements changes to improve the unit's operations, assessing the impact on other business areas.
  • Reviews and investigates inmate sentence structures and release date calculations, communicates with legal and criminal justice agencies, and provides guidance on sentence issues, ensuring compliance with Florida laws and Department of Corrections rules.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Understand the principles and practices of corrections, the criminal justice system, and administrative procedures.
  • Understand case law, commitment auditing, and release date calculations.
  • Familiar with computer applications and software platforms like the Offender Based Information Systems, Microsoft Office, the EFilling Portal, OnBase, and the Comprehensive Case Information System.

Technical Skills and Problem-Solving:

  • Proficient in using computer applications and software platforms like the Offender Based Information Systems, Microsoft Office, the E-Filling Portal, OnBase, and the Comprehensive Case Information System.
  • Ability to identify, research, investigate, and resolve technical and operational problems related to inmate sentence data, ensuring compliance with laws and court decisions.
  • Analyze court decisions and proposed changes in law and determine what impact they may have on release date calculations.
  • Use independent judgement to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with various legal and criminal justice agencies and prepare detailed reports on inmate sentence structures and release date calculations.

Process Improvement and Policy Implementation:

  • Analyze internal processes, implement procedural and policy changes to improve operations, and assess the impact on other business areas.

Training and Leadership:

  • Manage the Commitment Auditing Unit to ensure accurate sentence data and public safety.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must be currently employed with Florida Department of Corrections.
  • Applicant must have at least FIVE (5) years of experience interpreting and applying statutes and case law relating to sentencing.
  • Applicant must have at least:
    • FIVE (5) years of experience calculating release dates; OR
    • FIVE (5) years of experience as a supervisor within FDC

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
