POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assisting investigators and Command Staff with employment background investigations and providing analytical assistance related to other investigations conducted by Capitol Police.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Assisting with employment backgrounds, and providing analytical assistance to other investigations conducted by Capitol Police;
  • Conducting criminal, investigative, and intelligence record checks with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, assesses information developed, and reviews data for accuracy and completeness;
  • Independently researching, reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and documenting pertinent data regarding individuals that may pose a risk of targeted violence towards the Capitol Complex; and
  • Serving as backup to the Business Consultant I by conducting press, vendor and construction worker Level I background checks for individuals requiring access to the Capitol Complex and FDLE headquarters.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, or in a law enforcement agency can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Any combination of the experience, as described above, vocational/technical training in the area of law enforcement, or college course work from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter, 0or 720 classroom hours per year for the required education.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to conduct fact finding research;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to organize data into logical formats for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques;
  • Knowledge of report writing, research and intelligence analysis techniques;
  • Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in various Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

BASE SALARY:

  • Crime Intelligence Analyst I - $41,200.00 (Bachelor’s degree*).
  • Crime Intelligence Analyst II - $44,290.00 (Bachelor’s degree* and one year of analytical** experience).
  • Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst I - $46,350.00 (Bachelor’s degree* and three years of analytical** experience).
  • Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst II - $55,620.00 (Bachelor’s degree* and five years of analytical** experience).

 

*A master’s degree in criminology, law enforcement intelligence analysis, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis or comparable discipline; or professional certificate in one of these disciplines can substitute for one year of experience.

 

**Analytical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Analytical experience must be in the fields of: criminal intelligence, military intelligence, crime analysis or investigative experience in a law enforcement agency.

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant’s immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting.  This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

 

NOTES:

Preference will be given to current FDLE members who satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
