POSITION SUMMARY:

This position directs the activities of the members supervised within the Tallahassee Regional Operations Center Crime Laboratory. This position oversees the hiring and training of staff members, as well as implementing the quality assurance program. The ability to communicate with, lead, and motivate members is essential. Skill in establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with criminal justice partners is required.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Directing section activities to ensure quality and efficiency of work performed.
  • Supervising personnel in case assignments, file review, performance appraisal, attendance and leave, training, and resolution of technical and administrative issues.
  • Ensuring adherence to the Forensic Science Quality Manual (FSQM), Laboratory Administrative Procedures Manual (LAPM), discipline SOPs, and accreditation requirements.
  • Coordinating daily section operations and ensuring equitable workload distribution.
  • Fostering a collaborative work environment through open and effective communication.
  • Establishing performance standards and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Providing technical and administrative input to the Chief of Forensic Services.
  • Applying the Evidence Submission Policy and granting exceptions when appropriate.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forensic science, criminalistics, or a physical or natural science.
  2. Completion of an FDLE Crime Laboratory Analyst training program.
  3. Three years of professional experience in a crime laboratory analyst class (or equivalent).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of FDLE policies, laboratory procedures, and accreditation requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control principles.
  • Knowledge of FDLE selection criteria.
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures and ability to coordinate equipment repairs, maintenance, and calibration.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with the Chief of Forensic Services and contributors.
  • Ability to monitor work quality and manage attendance and leave.

BASE SALARY:

  • $78,795.08

 

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy.
