The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation (HSC) is comprised of six sections and two offices. This position works within the HSC Wildlife and Habitat Management Section’s Land Conservation and Planning (LCP) program.
Minimum qualifications: A high school diploma and five years of work experience that included administrative duties. An associate’s degree can substitute for two of the five years’ experience and a bachelor’s degree can substitute for four of the five years’ experience. An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, along with three years of professional experience in planning, evaluation, research analysis, business, government, social services, health or rehabilitative services, or fiscal work OR a bachelor’s degree in one of the biological sciences, urban planning, or a related field, along with one year of professional experience in planning, evaluation, research analysis, business, government, social services, health or rehabilitative services, or fiscal work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work independently.
Excellent organizational skills.
Knowledge and ability to use a variety of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and databases.
Ability to create presentations and present to the public or in meetings.
Ability to participate in out-of-town travel for one to four days per trip, approximately every other month.

Knowledge of the principles of land management and real estate.
Ability to review, examine, and evaluate data relating to state land acquisitions to ensure compliance with applicable statutory requirements.

Position Description and Duties:
Description:
The LCP program is offering an exciting opportunity in land conservation, working closely with land managers across the state to conserve priority land acquisitions, expanding the Florida Wildlife Corridor, and adding to more than six million acres within our Wildlife Management Area system. The working title of this position is Land Acquisition Review Agent.
Duties:
As a key member of the land conservation team, this role manages LCP and Florida Forever projects from design to completion. It involves expert process management, collaborative decision-making, and coordinating statewide partnerships to drive acquisition, grants, and planning, ensuring effective communication among stakeholders for project success.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Compliance: Executes comprehensive process and file management for LCP and Florida Forever land acquisition initiatives.
Strategic Planning: Initiates and supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of statewide land conservation projects.
Collaboration & Decision Making: Facilitates consensus-based decision-making for proposals and acquisitions.
Coordination & Outreach: Acts as the central point of contact for inter-agency, intra-agency, and stakeholder communication to foster partnership development.
Expert Consultation: Presents to the Acquisition and Restoration Council (ARC) regarding state land acquisition and management issues.
Policy & Legislative Development: Supports the creation and analysis of wildlife habitat conservation legislation, rules, and budgets for the Governor, Cabinet, and FWC leadership.
Land Acquisition Coordination: Manages agenda items and reports for land acquisitions, donations, and exchanges involving the Board of Trustees and ARC.
Strategic Representation: Serves as an agency liaison, assisting with items before the Florida Legislature and governing bodies to advance the Commission’s land conservation mission.
Public Engagement: Delivers technical presentations and represents the agency at public hearings, professional conferences, and forums.
GIS & Data Management: Leads the development of statewide GIS mapping and databases of FWC’s acquisition priorities and associated reports, managed area boundaries, natural resources, infrastructure, etc.
Operational Efficiency: Develops, maintains, and manages databases and data sources to improve available resources and procedures. Operates computer, peripheral devices, equipment, and systems for maximum utilization of computer efficiency, maintaining security and procedures and coordinating repairs as needed. Ensures all required agency and specialized LCP training is completed.
