MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and four years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or (2) a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or (3) a master's degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and three years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or (4) a doctorate from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and  one year of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or (5) six years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming and either (a) completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (b) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college coursework from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems. (6) Experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. (7) Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required computer systems analysis and/or computer programming experience.

DUTIES:  This position is an entry level position in the Database Administration Section.  It is involved in:

  • Database management and administration of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL database technologies
  • Ensuring database data integrity, security and availability
  • Performing database backup, restore and recovery
  • Designing, modeling and creating databases
  • Developing and maintaining utility programs, scripts and routines for management of database systems hosted on Red Hat LINUX and Windows server systems
  • Installing, configuring, patching and maintaining Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database software and databases
  • Supporting database related network connectivity technologies/adapters such as TNS, ODBC, OLEDB, JDBC
  • Providing support and diagnostic troubleshooting of web-based and client server applications in a distributed computer systems environment
  • Assisting with the establishment and enforcement of policies, standards and procedures related to Database Administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of computer operations, procedures and systems; knowledge of computer programming languages; ability to design systems logic and/or process information logically; ability to analyze and interpret computer program data; ability to identify and define user task needs and/or conduct short range and long range project planning studies; ability to prepare program specifications; ability to perform mathematical calculations; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to communicate technical data processing information effectively.

SPECIAL NOTES: Preference will be given to applicants with experience performing database administration work or performing application development for systems containing Oracle, MS SQL Server or MySQL databases.  Training will be provided and the position incumbent is expected to maintain proficiency for all technologies listed above.  This position typically works a standard 8AM-5PM schedule; however, occasional work on nights and weekends is required to support problem resolution, upgrades, patches and implementations.

Starting salary will be the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's Pay Policy.
