DESCRIPTION:

 

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a seasoned Career Service Data Base Consultant (aka DBA) to join our Information Technology (IT) Software Technology Team.  This position is responsible for managing the overall day to day technical operations of our enterprise application databases.  Advanced expertise in performance tuning activities and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter, team player, able to drive tasks to completion independently, and able to learn new skills on the job as project and data requirements expand.

Candidates must be highly motivated and have a strong desire to work in a team-oriented environment.  Candidates must be detail oriented, have strong written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support our enterprise applications.
  • Ensure proactive monitoring of the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
  • Conduct performance tuning/troubleshooting of our SQL environments.
  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts and upgrades.
  • Participate in the production support activities on a 24x7 basis as needed.  
  • Perform regular database maintenance, backups, disaster recovery, troubleshooting database error and/or database logs.
  • Ensure that the data is secured at all times.
  • Performance optimization and tuning, databases and objects administration, scheduled jobs (tasks) management, create triggers, data transfers and replication management.
  • Create and Review stored procedures for efficiency.
  • Create tables on production server, Create SSIS Packages, Adding fields to tables on production server, perform bulk copy, data conversion, data transfer, data cleansing, software upgrade, data archiving, create data dictionary, create & modify data model and system documentation.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years’ experience developing SSIS packages.
  • 4+ years’ experience supporting large, high-performance database solutions for premiere Intranet/Internet-based applications.
  • Expert user of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or higher (i.e. programming experience with Structured Query Language (SQL)) including strong knowledge of Transact-SQL.
  •  Working knowledge of business automation processes used to streamline operations, increase productivity and lower costs to ensure the flow of data runs efficiently to meet the business needs of the department.
  • Ability to perform hands-on query optimization, data analysis, and database tuning.
  • In-depth knowledge/understanding of relational database design, technologies and concepts relating to areas that would affect the use and performance of the application.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Capable of solving problems quickly and accurately.
  • Experience with data migration and data warehousing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to candidates with 5+years of working experience as a Senior Database Administrator.

B.S. in Computer Science/Computer Information Systems. 

 

WORK HOURS:   

Normal work hours are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m however, working on weekends to deploy applications may occasionally be required.
