Position Overview and Responsibilities:
This position is a temporary, part-time Data Enablement Intern housed onsite within the Office of Environmental Accountability and Transparency. As a Data Enablement Intern at DEP, you will have the exciting opportunity to work with one of the nation’s largest environmental data sets which helps protect, conserve and manage the state’s natural resources. You will primarily support two Data & Analytics (D&A) initiatives: data literacy and the data catalog.
For data literacy, you will:
- Update our data literacy plan by learner role
- Maintain our Qlik Learning, LinkedIn Learning, and DataCamp subscriptions
- Update and promote our D&A Teams chat channels
- Schedule, coordinate, and create content for D&A Lunch & Learns
- Maintain D&A users list and email groups
- Report data literacy metrics to Leadership and DEP training office
- Assist Chief Data & Analytics Officer with custom data literacy courses
For the data catalog, you will:
- Assist with the implementation of an enterprise-wide data catalog
- Work with DEP staff to discover and map important data assets
- Gather, standardize, and build data dictionaries
- Work with the Office of Technology and Information Services on methods to generate data descriptions using modern technologies
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan, manage, and timely complete work assignments
- Ability to develop and maintain accurate, detailed documentation
- Skilled at working with a distributed team to organize information into new, easily accessible formats
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a data science, computer science, information technology, library science, environmental science, or related graduate program as evidenced by transcript and/or degree. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching, training, or coaching
- Experience with data cataloging
- Experience with data management (coding, analyzing, visualizing, cleansing, etc.).
- Passion for the environment Ability to work with Qlik, Excel, and/or databases.
Pay:
$15.00 per hour/15-29 hours per week Monday-Friday (schedule dependent on office needs and candidate availability)
