SPECIAL NOTES:
Two (2) years of experience as a legislative aide or working in public relations, external affairs, or other elected official is preferred.

Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $73,000.00.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of various methods of data collection and analysis, and the ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data and feedback to develop alternative recommendations; knowledge of basic public and media relations principles; ability to coordinate events; ability to determine work priorities, delegate work and ensure proper completion of work assignments; ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with internal staff and external partners; ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to conduct fact-finding research, solve problems and make decisions; and ability to work within a team and independently. Skill in use of personal computer and laptop. Skill in use of MS Word and Excel.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position serves as the Deputy Director of External Affairs and directly assists the Director of External Affairs.
Formulates and administers policies related to the External Affairs Office. Makes recommendations on agency positions related to External Affairs.
Assists with coordinating the workload of the Regional Managers.
Provides guidance to management, establishes priorities and objectives and formulates policy concerning the nature and scope of the services provided to the public through consumer outreach programs.
Assists in identifying areas of potential improvement in by participating in special projects and programs devised to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of regional office capabilities as directed.
Develops public events and forums as required and requested by agency representatives. Makes recommendations regarding event and meeting opportunities. Serves as liaison with other DFS regional office and divisions regarding public education requests and speaker assignments. Completes advance work and provides professional support before, during and after the event.
Maintains databases of relevant contact information.
Potentially needed to assist before and after natural disasters. Could be required, on very short notice, to perform duties in support of disaster relief efforts, including staffing insurance villages or disaster recovery centers.
Must be available early mornings, evenings and weekends to preform outreach programs, as needed.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed.
