Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The person in this role will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies for specific program areas within the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. They will work closely with leadership, stakeholders, team members, the Office of Communications and the Office of Marketing and Multimedia Services to ensure that the execution and processes are successful from beginning to end. Core responsibilities include the following tasks, but is not limited to: 

  • Developing campaigns and project initiatives to advance the department's brand, mission, goals and objectives to protect Florida's natural resources through the management of production schedules, monitoring deadlines and facilitating timely execution while maintaining a robust internal approval process.
  • Assisting the Marketing Director, Deputy Marketing Director and the Office of Communications with marketing campaign execution, planning, developing supporting materials, communicating with stakeholders, vendors and reviewing creative assets.
  • Analyzing trends and conducting specific program related outreach to identify marketing opportunities.
  • Coordinating the development of marketing plans and preparing program and campaign reports. Overseeing the collection of campaign and initiative metrics and tracking campaign performance.
  • Producing audience, trends and performance reports related to ongoing marketing campaigns, initiatives, projects and tasks or departmental needs.
  • Conducting stakeholder meetings to maintain and track strategic marketing campaign goals.
  • Keeping the Deputy Director of Marketing informed of ongoing projects and maintaining communication with stakeholders throughout the development and implementation process.
  • Assisting with procurement for third-party branded material vendors, budgeting of marketing efforts and collaborating with various staff to take creative projects from concept to final product.
  • Updating the DEP website during office closures such as hurricanes and other natural or manmade disasters.
  • The job requires occasional travel for marketing/communications events and research campaigns.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as requested.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to work using computer and digital platforms.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite/365, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work using Adobe Acrobat/Reader.
  • Knowledge of developing marketing and advertising campaigns.
  • Knowledge of current marketing and communication principles and trends.
  • Interpersonal collaboration and communication skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Creativity and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to adapt.
  • Skilled in project management.
  • Skilled in strategic planning.
  • AP style writing.
  • Skilled in content development experience for print publications, web, social media and marketing multimedia.

  • Ability to function as a liaison between program areas, press office and leadership.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

At least six years of verifiable related experience in marketing, public relations, broadcasting, journalism, mass communications and/or other related fields. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field of study may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis for a total of six years. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

 

 

Position of Special Trust:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of multimedia marketing production.
  • Knowledge of web and digital media marketing platforms.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, this includes knowledge of software like InDesign and Illustrator for creation of graphic design.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Planner, Lists and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge and experience with multimedia and marketing campaigns for government, environmental issues and/or destination marketing.

 

Pay:

$45,000 – $50,000
