The Work You Will Do:

As part of FDOT Communications, you'll be part of a fast-paced team that helps tell FDOT's story. This position will be primarily focused on leading digital media monitoring and analytics, content and graphic creation, brand consistency, and support web content placement on the FDOT website.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for organizing and directing digital media activities of the Department's Communications Office and creating written and graphic content for use in written responses, and presentations conducted by Executive Leadership.

 

Creates written and graphic content to be used by the Department for various activities, such as responses to media and constituent inquiries, talking points, press releases, scripts, and internal and external communications. Assists with the production of graphics for social media, presentation slides, using Canva, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator, as needed.

 

Oversees and manages Department digital media accounts and serves as the Functional Coordinator for FDOT.gov, working collaboratively with program areas, districts, offices, and consultants overseeing and managing processes, approvals and improvements for FDOT’s digital channels. Supports SharePoint administrative updates from the Public Information Office (PIO) and Executive Team. Assists in the approval of notices on SharePoint and development of messaging templates for internal and external messaging.

 

Implements digital media best practices, department branding, and emerging trends for all program areas, districts, and offices. Identifies and integrates social media metrics translating the data into actionable insights to support continuing growth of the Department's social media footprint.

 

Assists internal and external customers in a professional and courteous manner through all channels, including the Office telephone and email inbox.

 

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with knowledge of professional writing standards and the ability to identify, interpret, and communicate relevant information to internal and external stakeholders with little direction.
  • Proficient in social media management, including platform-specific best practices and engagement strategies and ability to interpret and present analytics reports for social media and web platforms.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and work within various Content Management Systems (CMS) preferred. Capable of contributing to the development of long-range goals and strategic objectives.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Advanced capabilities in Microsoft PowerPoint and Canva, with the ability to make executive-level adjustments and enhancements to support the Agency’s Executive Office for legislative updates, executive speaking engagements, and other high-profile presentations.
  • Familiarity with office procedures, administrative practices, and workflow coordination.

 

Skills in:

  • Skilled in writing, editing and/or proofreading documents for print, social media, websites, news media and publications using AP Style.
  • Self-starter who can keep up and work independently in a fast-paced team environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple work assignments and manage work independently.

 

Ability to:

  • Ability to follow directions and be comfortable working independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of long-range goals and strategic objectives.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Five years of professional or nonprofessional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, mass communications, journalism, and/or web design. Post-secondary education can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
