The Work You Will Do:

Director, Office of Maintenance

This role leads the Office of Maintenance, overseeing statewide roadway and bridge upkeep, enforcing commercial vehicle regulations, and supporting district operations. It involves setting strategic direction, managing resources, updating policies, coordinating with partners, and supporting emergency response efforts.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Lead, manage, and supervise the Office of Maintenance (State Maintenance Office, Motor Carrier Size and Weight, and Program Management Section), the statewide maintenance program, and the Office of Maintenance’s support of the districts in the execution of statewide maintenance program for the effective maintenance and preservation of roadways, roadsides, and bridges and the enforcement of commercial motor vehicle overweight and overdimension laws and rules. Develop, review, coordinate, and communicate mission, vision, direction, priorities, and strategies that further the Department’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Objectives. Lead, change, and develop employees and coalitions.

Lead, manage, and supervise the Office of Maintenance to provide technical assistance; develop and update policies, procedures, guidelines, initiatives, and other direction; develop and provide training; and perform Quality Assurance Reviews for the effective and efficient operations of the Office of Maintenance and to support the districts in the execution of the state maintenance program.

Develop and provide recommendations and reports on maintenance programs. Develop strategies to maintain and improve the operations of the Office of Maintenance within the constraints of the number of approved positions and rate provided in the legislative budget. Develop and participate in the development of Department policies, the five-year work program, budgets, and executive leadership guidance. Develop and coordinate the development of transportation asset management direction, strategies, and plans. Develop a and review proposed changes to legislation as needed.

Coordinate with other offices and divisions within the Department, other Florida state agencies, transportation industry partners, other state Departments of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and local agencies on the statewide maintenance program. Serve on committees of national organizations with which the Department is affiliated, such as the Transportation Research Board, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and National Cooperative Highway Research Program. Serve on Department standing and ad hoc committees and otherwise represent the statewide maintenance program on local, state, and national task teams and committees.

Assist and coordinate preparations for emergency operations, support the districts during emergency operations, and support the Department’s Emergency Coordinating Officer during emergency operations.

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • The incumbent must demonstrate the above-referenced leadership core competencies.

 

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471, F.S.

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • This position requires a Level I background check. This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
