Job Description

Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney/Career Attorney for Judge Ross Bilbrey for a position beginning late October or early November 2026. Judge Bilbrey would prefer an attorney with experience working for an appellate judge or court.  He would also prefer an attorney who is seeking a long-term position. However, he is willing to consider a one- or two-year term clerk. Hybrid or remote arrangements may be available for an experienced attorney.

Education and Training Guidelines


Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Florida Bar or admission pending. Experienced in research and writing whether from prior employment or clerkship, law journal, or moot court experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 

Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain a caseload and meet deadlines. Knowledge of legal principles, statutory and case law, Bluebook, court rules and procedures, and commitment to the rules of ethics governing lawyers, judges, and court employees. Ability to grasp and analyze complex legal issues and complicated factual matters. Ability to perform exacting work with attention to details. Ability to digest large amounts of information and communicate informed legal recommendations to the judge. Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, impartiality, and honesty in handling matters before the court. Ability to work effectively with court staff and take direction from the judge.

SALARY:

Attorneys are paid according to the Florida State Court System Appellate Staff Attorney Pay Plan, which currently provides as follows:

  • Entry level Staff Attorney $69,238.80 annual salary.
  • Senior Staff Attorney (at least 2 years’ experience in the practice of law following passage of the Florida Bar Exam) $78,519.84 annual salary.
  • Career Attorney (at least 5 years’ experience in the practice of law following passage of the Florida Bar Exam) $88,324.08 annual salary.
