POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position plays a lead role in conducting complex research projects and statistical tests to advance knowledge of effective juvenile justice policy and practice.  Additionally, this position will assist with development and maintenance of visual analytic reports using software such as Tableau or Power Business Intelligence (BI).  This position will also play a key role in assisting with oversight and operation of grant-funded initiatives, and may also apply for grant funding, both federal and non-federal.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct research and evaluation that informs policy and practice utilizing advanced research methods and advanced mathematical and statistical techniques.  These tasks require significant coding knowledge and experience. Software utilized includes Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), Stata, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Excel.

 

Data science tasks including analysis and visualization using Tableau and/or Power BI.

 

Training and development of training materials for grant-funded projects.

 

Leading evaluation projects ensuring fidelity of implementation and quality designs.

 

Mentoring junior staff on statistical techniques.

 

Conducting academic literature reviews, maintaining current knowledge in research on relevant areas including risk assessment, evidence-based practice, and evaluation.

 

Applying for grant funding, when assigned.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced research methods.

Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced statistical tests such as propensity score matching, coarsened exact matching, and multi-level modelling.

Knowledge of and ability to use SPSS and Stata software.

Knowledge of the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS).

Knowledge of evidence-based practice in juvenile justice.

Knowledge of the Florida juvenile justice system.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in a social science field.

Experience with advanced research methods including quasi-experimental designs.

One year of applied research experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in a social science field.

Demonstrated abilty to develop grant applications.

Experience conducting analyses using Florida Juvenile Justice data

Ability to successfully develop manuscripts for publication.

 

SPECIAL NOTES

Light travel will be required.  It is anticipated that travel will not exceed 6-8 overnight trips annually.

 

Most work will be performed in-office however, upon supervisor approval, occasional telework may be permitted.

Licenses suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/education only licenses) and some types of restricted licenses are not acceptable.  Licenses that have Corrective Lenses Restriction are acceptable, provided the driver wears corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.
