Minimum Requirements:


A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and two years of experience as described above; or a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and one year of experience as described above; or a doctorate from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems; or four years of experience as described above and either (1) completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (2) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems. Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required experience.


Job Description:

The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.  The employee must interact courteously with others.  The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.  Attendance is an essential function of this position.


This is a highly technical and administrative position involved in the design, development and maintenance of the Division's information security, policy, procedures and tools.


  • Coordinates the development and delivery of an education and training program on information security and privacy matters for employees.
  • Facilitates, and promotes activities to create information security awareness throughout organization.
  • Monitors and routinely audits compliance to all information security procedures and policies, and ensures consistency of internal controls across division.
  • Ensure that the division is compliant with all department IT-related policies.
  • Assists with configuration, review, and management of security tools
  • Assists with the development and management of information security policies and procedures.
  • Monitors, tracks, and analyzes data vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies. This includes network vulnerability scanning, assessment and monitoring (with Division infrastructure and network staff); SIEM analysis, application vulnerability scanning assessment and monitoring (with Division development teams); configuration management (with Division Infrastructure and network staff); and security monitoring.
  • Assist with division investigations of any security related incidents.
  • Compile and document information required for IT or security incident reports.
  • Consults with agency administrators and users to conduct information assessments to determine security needs and to define systems requirements.

Background Screening Requirement:


It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment undergo level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer. All applicants for employment or to volunteer who are selected for an interview will be provided with the Consent to Background Screening form for level 2 screening, the Affidavit of Good Moral Character, and the Notice of Rights. The leading candidate for employment or to volunteer will be required to execute the Consent form and Affidavit, report to a designated location, and submit fingerprints for level 2 screening.
