Minimum Qualification:

Six years of direct professional experience including at least two years of professional archival experience in a formally-established archival program (for example: municipal, county, state, national, historical society, university)

OR

Master’s degree in archives, records management, history, public history, information science or one of the social sciences and at least two years of professional archival experience in a formally-established archival program (for example: municipal, county, state, national, historical society, university)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Archivist.

Master’s degree in archives, records management or public history.

Graduate certificate in archives or records management as part of a completed public history or information science graduate degree.

Completed coursework or workshops in archives or records management outside of a completed master’s degree or certification.

At least one year of experience in appraisal of the archival, legal, fiscal and administrative value of public records.

At least one year of experience working in one or more of the following: archival collections management, reference, preservation/conservation, public programs.

At least two years’ experience in providing technical assistance to municipal, county or state government agencies regarding archival issues or requests.

At least two years’ experience working in Florida government.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in electronic records and manuscripts acquisition and processing, including the solicitation of manuscript collections and the identification and transfer of electronic records. Appraises the archival, legal, fiscal and administrative value and assesses the physical condition and preservation concerns of electronic records and manuscripts.
  • Develops filing and access methods and tools, such as finding aids, for historical and electronic records within the State Archives' collections. Assists the Electronic Records Coordinator in conducting regular inventory and condition assessment of electronic records held within the State Archives.
  • Assists in providing archival reference services and technical assistance to municipal, county and state government agencies about records management, archival resources, and management of historical records collections.
  • Assists in the development, review and implementation of records retention schedules and records disposition requests, including archival appraisal of scheduled records, to ensure proper life-cycle management of records.
  • Assists in the utilization and maintenance of automated archival and records management information systems.
  • Recommends processing needs and priorities for both manuscripts and public records collections.
  • Monitors state-of-the-art techniques and practices for archival management. Maintains a high level of expertise through training courses, information exchange, reading and research.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of historical research techniques and trends.
  • Knowledge of archival methodology, practices and standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to complete complex assignments on schedule.
  • Ability to drive and travel by automobile between in town work locations and occasional out-of-town/overnight business travel.
