Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of relevant job-related experience in teaching or coordinating programs or projects in an arts related field OR
  • Bachelor's degree with major course of study in fine art, folklore, history, anthropology, American studies, dance, design arts, drama, literature, music, performing arts, visual arts, museum studies, arts management, arts administration, or related field. OR
  • Equivalent number of hours of course work towards a degree in one of the major courses of study listed above and at least one year of relevant job-related experience. 
  • Experience planning and administering concerts and musical performance
  • Familiarity with traditional music
  • Experience conducting ethnographic or qualitive research
  • Current resume and cover letter that addresses the required knowledge, skills and abilities specified in the advertisement to be considered.

Preferences:

  • Master of Arts in Folklore, Ethnomusicology, Master of Fine Arts or Communication
  • Experience with graphic design and video editing,
  • Experience writing press releases, speeches, and/or public speaking
  • Experience with extensive research
  • Experience in event management
  • Experience working with collaborative teams

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Program Manager is a professional administrator with subject matter expertise (musicology, folk and traditional arts) that is able to effectively communicate with constituents.  Demonstrates exceptional customer service, accountability adaptability, dependability, initiative, and exemplary personal conduct and professional relationships, all which are core values of the Division and the Department of State.
  • This is a full-time Program Manager position with specific disciplines assigned. Manages and monitors music, folk and traditional arts services and events for cultural programs in Florida. Duties include research of music genres and artists to be included in the Florida Music Tours website and in the Florida Folk Festival, processing and reviewing applications for Folklife programs; selection and coordination of folklife fieldwork; and coordination of events such as the Artists Residency and publications.
  • This specialist is a Folklife team member. Lends expertise in support of the administration and operation of the Florida Folklife Program. Participate in the identification, documentation, interpretation, and promotion of folk resources, arts in the military/arts in wellness programs and services for Florida veterans.
  • Serves as the Division’s sound tech., works closely with DAC strategic plan and executes assigned areas of the plan.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required. Periodic travel is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the arts, arts administration and management.
  • Knowledge of folklife, musicology, oral history programs and presentation of related materials, public relations and communication, ability to work with people from different cultures, and the military community, skill in a/v sound and photographic equipment.
  • Ability to review and evaluate program compliance.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and program functions.
  • Ability to conduct research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform public speaking duties.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to efficiently operate computer software.
