MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Six years of direct professional experience or master’s degree can substitute.
  • Two years of professional library experience in reference or acquisitions.

 

PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science from nationally accredited program.
  • Library supervisory experience.
  • Three or more years working in acquisitions or collection development.
  • Three or more years providing reference and research services to library users.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the State Library's materials book budget as well as all the associated collection development and acquisitions activities.
  • Supervises and manages the operation of the activities and staff of the Library Lending Section. This includes statistics, narrative reports, performance appraisals, development of performance expectations, position descriptions, recruitment and disciplinary actions.
  • Provides complex reference and research services as requested by state agency personnel and the general public. Provides complex online searches of multiple database services for bibliographic citations and full-text articles on subjects requested by patrons. Assists users in research directing their use of multiple sources and collections. Utilizes materials in all formats from all collections. Keeps appropriate statistics regarding the usage of collection.
  • Promotes the library and services through presentations, webinars, tours and other types of targeted communication.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of library and information science.
  • Knowledge of automated library systems.
  • Ability to provide reference and research services to library users.
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations about the selection of library material.
  • Ability to work with and balance budgets.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to work with a variety of computer applications.
  • Ability to perform extended data entry
  • Ability to lift and process boxes of books that may weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to bend and reach to shelve materials.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs.
  • Ability to push loaded book trucks.
