Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of paid work experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment. Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for two (2) years’ experience
  • Knowledge of proper building and equipment repair and maintenance procedures and methods; AND skill in the proper use of maintenance tools and products
  • Ability to assume responsibility for a broad range of maintenance activities and perform work in the most efficient manner possible
  • Ability to assist with preparations ahead of severe weather events and assist with clean-up and recovery efforts following a storm
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Ability and willingness to move, push, carry, or lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Resume and cover letter detailing relevant experience

Preferences:

  • Experience with museum operations.
  • Experience with organization finances, including creating and managing budgets and purchasing
  • Able to work Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and occasionally weekend and after hours as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make repairs to buildings, facilities, and grounds.
  • Maintains sitewide plumbing, heating, electrical, and security systems. 
  • Liaison with private contractors (construction, pest control, security, etc.).
  • Orders and purchases parts and supplies.
  • Maintains inventory of all maintenance-related equipment.
  • Monitors janitor and lawn maintenance contractors.
  • Meet with and observe contractors, including regular maintenance and historic preservation.
  • Support day-to-day museum operations.
  • Assist with preparing the site for extreme weather and helping clean up after extreme weather.
  • Assist with other Department of State activities or initiatives as needed.
