Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of direct work experience in Museum Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology or a closely related field; OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one or more of the above fields AND two (2) years combined full-time experience in an archaeology collections and archives setting
  • Resume and relevant cover letter detailing applicants’ two (2) years’ minimum work experience in archaeology collections and archives organizations, which includes a description of the work performed.

Preferences:

  • Experience selecting and preparing objects for exhibit and/or loan
  • Experience analyzing and cataloging archaeological collections
  • Experience conducting independent research on archaeological collections
  • Experience working with archives
  • Strong technology skills including Microsoft Office products and collections management systems

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Takes primary responsibility for maintaining artifact loan records, including coordinating and compiling borrower information, reviewing borrower’s facility report where required, preparing loan documents, issuing and processing renewal notices (including record of Certificate of Insurance where required), entering and/or updating computer database records pertaining to artifact loans and maintaining associated archives.
  • Assists collections manager in helping clients and visitors find and review artifacts. Assists in helping clients select archaeological artifacts for loans appropriate to the purpose and facilities of the borrowing agency. This includes helping clients identify and place archaeological artifacts in historic context and assisting clients with the interpretation of artifacts for exhibit purposes.
  • Assists other staff in maintaining standard artifact and accessions archaeological databases, including data entry, periodic data checks, annual audits and information retrieval. This includes assisting with accessioning new collections, processing related forms, preparing new collections for inventory, and transferring items to the conservation lab for conservation.
  • Takes primary responsibility for overseeing integrated pest management program including regularly setting traps, identifying insects within them, and maintaining data of findings. Also takes primary responsibility for monitoring temperature and humidity levels using environmental monitors and recording data on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience analyzing, cataloguing, and locating artifacts within a collections management database system;
  • Knowledge of professional IPM standards;
  • Windows based applications experience;
  • Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail;
  • Knowledge and experience in the proper handling, storage, and transportation of artifacts.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutes and rules that apply to managing the Division’s archaeological collections.
