POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for operating the Capitol Police’s electronic security system and communications network located in the Capitol Building and serving the Capitol Center and statewide facilities operations for the Department of Law Enforcement.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Operating and supervising the Capitol Police electronic security system and communications network and serving the Capitol Center and statewide facilities operations for the Department of Law Enforcement on a rotating shift basis;
  • Supervising and overseeing the training and development of dispatch / communications staff in the operating and monitoring functions of the Capitol Police electronic security system and communications network;
  • Maintaining contact with both sworn and non-sworn personnel on a continuous and scheduled basis by use of both a two-way radio communication system and a telephone network to maintain integrity of the security program;
  • Contacting, coordinating, and directing appropriate law enforcement personnel, law enforcement agencies and other personnel when dangerous situations or issues arise until the situation is resolved;
  • Controlling the elevator system in the Capitol Building when emergency situations arise to include transporting appropriate personnel to necessary locations within the building;
  • Performing regular checks on the electronic security system to ensure its operational effectiveness to include dispatching security personnel to assess and correct any issue;
  • Receiving and disseminating criminal information and records to appropriate personnel and advising of its status as requested;
  • Maintaining records of radio communications, personnel checking on and off duty, and other information as required; and
  • Disseminating information to interested parties regarding the rules and regulations pertaining to the Capitol Complex and Capitol Circle Office Center area including visiting hours, areas of interest, etc.

 

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.  A high school diploma or its equivalent.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of appropriate ways to interact with individuals in critical situations;
  • Ability to supervise others;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to speak clearly and listen effectively;
  • Ability to coordinate and disseminate information;
  • Ability to make decisions and function effectively in high stress emergency situations;
  • Ability to compile and review written reports and logs;
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments; and
  • Ability to monitor surveillance equipment (i.e. cameras, alarms).

 

BASE SALARY:

  • $63,036.22

 

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
