Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Environmental Consultant, position number 37020846, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Biology Program, Molecular Biology Section in Tallahassee. This advanced environmental position is responsible for preparing and analyzing samples using qPCR, providing technical scientific expertise, and leading microbial source tracking projects. This position provides the department and other resource agencies with the highest quality laboratory services available.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general biology, microbiology, and molecular biology.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computers and software programs utilized for word processing, database management, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Skill in preparing technical reports and publications.
  • Skill in the use of scientific laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to perform qPCR methods and interpret qPCR data.
  • Ability to evaluate new molecular methods and procedures.
  • Ability to use QC measures to evaluate accuracy, precision and efficiency of qPCR methods and ensure high quality data.
  • Ability to create and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to instruct and train coworkers and new employees in the proper performance of routine laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature in the field of environmental source tracking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments, determine work priorities, and ensure completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision or as part of a team as required to achieve specified goals.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least (7) years of verifiable related experience in environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

 

 

Other job requirements:

  • Valid Driver License
  • Occasional Travel

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using TaqMan® qPCR assays.
  • Experience performing DNA extractions.

 

 

Pay:

$ 4,582.95 per month
