Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is environmental managerial work serving as a consultant for the radiation machine section. The incumbent exercises independent judgment assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures having significant impact on the public health. Exceptional communication skills are necessary to collect information, analyze data, and make determinations. The incumbent assists in policy formulation and administration. Duties include:

 

Coordinates the department's activities regarding the grant from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and manages the workload assignments for the inspection of radiation machines related to these grants. Duties include:

  • Assist bureau inspectors, registrants and general public by providing regulatory, technical, scientific and professional guidance and consultation related to Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) processes, requirements and implementation.
  • Provide the Inspection Administrator with a written audit report on inspectors to include overall inspector results and any corrective action or training needed.
  • Collect, evaluate and analyze MQSA inspection data to track agency performance and develop corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Review state and federal mammography violations.
  • Evaluate corrective action has been routed through the proper channels.
  • Maintain federal inspection data on external source.
  • Provide FDA with reports and notifications as required under the grant provisions and Federal codes.
  • Generate, review, assign and verify MQSA inspection schedule.
  • Assist in grant activities to assure completion.
  • May be required to become MQSA certified to provide MQSA consultation and oversight functions and assist with inspections if deemed necessary.

 

Assists the section administrator, the inspection staff, the radiation machine section staff, and radiation machine registrants by providing assistance as needed, including but not limited to regulatory, technical and professional guidance.

 

Prepares monthly and quarterly FDA contract fulfillment documents and invoices for submission to and payment by FDA.

 

Assists in developing radiation machine inspection procedures and forms to protect radiation workers and the general public from unnecessary exposures. Evaluates emerging uses of radiation machines to identify changes needed in the inspection process.

 

Performs special project inspections following established procedures in order to development new procedures.

 

Evaluates requests for Electronic Brachytherapy Authorizations and provides documentation when approved.

 

Provides consultation and support for state inspection staff, interagency/intergovernmental bodies and federal partners on

developing issues in radiation protection.

 

Other related duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of radioactive material and machine produced radiation principles; how radiation machines produce radiation; controlling factors for radiation machines; testing methods for radiation machines.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

A minimum of five years of experience in the area of physics and analytical techniques of radiation or closely related

discipline in the sciencentific or medical fields. Degree in physical sciences, biology, mathematics, engineering or related field preferred.
